San Diego’s Lights Out Debacle

12 Aug

NFL outside linebacker Shawne Merriman is in a fight with his team the San Diego Chargers. This fight stems from a number of issues, mainly job security and money. The Chargers position is that Merriman’s production as a player has diminished. But they fail to acknowledge the fact he was returning from an injury. Thus, it is relevant and expected that he wouldn’t perform up to past production right away.

Yesterday ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter reported that sources told him, Shawne Merriman was expected to sign a one-year, $3.269 million restricted free agent tender and will report to training camp. Shortly after that report, NFL Networks Jason La Canfora is reporting sources close to Merriman said no decision has been made.

Merriman took to his twitter account yesterday and said “All reports of me reporting to camp this weekend would come from the team “San Diego Chargers” not “sources”.”

San Diego front office has a lot to deal with this offseason. They better move these player disputes along quickly or their chances of being a contender this year will be sitting at home like many of their best players.
