Washington Showdown Albert Haynesworth vs. Head Coach Mike Shanahan

23 Aug

The saga in DC just got bigger. Albert Haynesworth vs. Head Coach Mike Shanahan is nearing the round # 12. The trouble between the two men started this offseason when Haynesworth failed to show up to offseason workouts. However, when he did arrive, Shanahan made him complete the infamous conditioning test in order to practice with the team. After completing the conditioning test in the allotted time, Haynesworth was allowed to practice with the team.

Wouldn’t you think Shanny has made his point by now? Well of course not. Shanahan told reports that Haynesworth wasn’t in shape to play with the starters in their first preseason game. The week following the game against the Bills (first game) Haynesworth was reportedly suffering from dehydration, and headaches. Now this is an important fact to present. When Shanahan got to the Redskins he made it clear that if a player don’t practice during the week, he won’t play. Well needless to say he didn’t practice the week of the second preseason game, but played with the second and third teams.

After the game Haynesworth was pissed off, and he didn’t bite his lip when the reporters came to interview him. He accused Mike Shanahan of downplaying his health condition by saying it was “Headaches.”

Monday it was reported that Haynesworth was in fact telling the truth and suffers from Rhabdomyolysis. According to the Mayo Clinic, Rhabdomyolysis is a rare condition that causes muscle cells to break down.

Also on Monday Shanahan said about Albert not practicing but playing… “That will not happen under this regime. If he’s going to play, he’s going to practice, and that is the same with every player here. The days of him playing without practicing are over. And that, to me, says it all.” (to fanhouse.com)

Fair or Foul for Shanahan to downplay his injury?
