Spring Football

4 May

I have been away from my blogging duties and I am extremely sorry to my loyal followers. Last year I took a head coach job at the age of 24. Needless to say, I was busy studying, making mistakes, and trying to rebuild the program.

Since my staff and I have found stable ground I look forward to blogging again. This first post is a collection of videos I’ve been studying this spring to improve my team.

Urban Meyer Back at it Again

6 Mar

Ohio State new head football coach is back to what he loves best, recruiting. He has his eyes on the quick, speedy wide receiver LaQuon Treadwell from Crete, Illinois. Treadwell is a 6`3, 185 pound wide receiver that runs a 4.40 40-yard dash.

Treadwell is a prospect in the 2013 class.

Last season, he totaled 75 receptions for 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns. He is clearly a complete mold of Meyer’s ideal wide receiver.

He has offers from Arkansas, Alabama, Michigan State, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Notre Dame, USC, Illinois, and Oklahoma State.

Good News at UVA

12 Feb

After being courted by Tampa Bay Bucccaneers new head coach Greg Schiano, University of Virginia offensive coordinator Bill Lazor will remain at UVA.

One of the best new coordinators will continue to help rebuild the once struggling programs. Head coach Mike London is to be excited about this news. He said in a statement, “I was very happy when Bill told me he was still going to be a member of our coaching staff. He has done a wonderful job with the development of our team and I know he believes we can make even more improvement this year. I’m happy he will be here to help us continue to build something special at Virginia.”

Big Missouri Welcome

29 Jan

With just days left to national signing day, Missouri fans made a highly sought after wide receiver recruit feel welcomed.

A game against Texas Tech that doesn’t necessarily get much attention, got a lot of attention this past Saturday. Star WR out of Hillcrest High in Missouri, Dorial Green-Beckham made a visit to Missouri, one of his final three schools.

Green-Beckham is the number one recruit by several scouting services. Gary Pinkel is starting to build a nice recruiting class.

Penn State New Guy? Bill O’Brien

6 Jan

After A year of scandal, Penn State seems to have their guy to replace Joe Paterno. Multiple sources have said the New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien will be the new head coach at Penn State.

Penn State has not commented. And if true, it’s not clear if O’Brien will coach the Patriots in the NFL Playoffs.

Prelude: The Making of ‘A Game of Honor’

7 Dec

Preview to the upcoming Showtime documentary “A Game of Honor” featuring the Army and Navy football programs. It premieres December 21st at 10 pm est

One of the greatest football games I’ve ever been to was a Army versus Navy game. It was great not because of the football but due to the prestige and honor of both institutions. Although both teams are pure rivals, it’s touching to watch how respectful the teams are for one another. And in the end you come to grips that these young men are working to defend our country and playing football.

When i saw this clip on CBS Sports I had to post it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Cougars Welcome Mike Leach

6 Dec

Mike Leach is formally introduced as Washington State University new head football coach.

Leach former coach at Texas Tech and a innovative offense mind, most notably the Air Raid offense, should be a good fit at WSU.

UCLA Wants Jim Mora Jr.

6 Dec

Several reports now suggest that UCLA is highly considering Jim Mora Jr. as their next head coach. UCLA has a coaching opening due to the recent firing of Rick Neuheisel on November 28.

Mora, 50, had a overall 31-33 record in the NFL as a head coach with the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks.

Sean “Diddy” Combs Son Commits To UCLA

30 Nov

Not long before UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel was told he wouldn’t be retained, UCLA got its offer accepted from a 5`9, 175 pound cornerback. This is noteworthy because this recruit is the son of the music industry well known executive/rappers.

Sean Combs son, Justin Combs has committed to UCLA to play cornerback. He has offers from Virginia, Wyoming, and Illinois.

Urban Meyer To Make $4,000,000 a Year

29 Nov

Urban Meyer new coach of Ohio State University will be paid for $4 million a year. However, this may end up being a profitable investment on the field, off I’m not so sure.

Urban Meyer’s University of Florida teams weren’t the best behaved group of kids. Thus, for a university that has problems with discipline to hire a guy with questionable player character issues isn’t a good choice. Nevertheless, if we look a pure football performance, it’s hard to question Meyer and his ability to develop and recruit players into great teams.

With an overall coaching record of 104-23 over 10 seasons is good enough for Ohio State. Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith said Meyer was an “outstanding recruiter who can attract some of the best home state players to Columbus”
