Spring Football

4 May

I have been away from my blogging duties and I am extremely sorry to my loyal followers. Last year I took a head coach job at the age of 24. Needless to say, I was busy studying, making mistakes, and trying to rebuild the program.

Since my staff and I have found stable ground I look forward to blogging again. This first post is a collection of videos I’ve been studying this spring to improve my team.

Urban Meyer Back at it Again

6 Mar

Ohio State new head football coach is back to what he loves best, recruiting. He has his eyes on the quick, speedy wide receiver LaQuon Treadwell from Crete, Illinois. Treadwell is a 6`3, 185 pound wide receiver that runs a 4.40 40-yard dash.

Treadwell is a prospect in the 2013 class.

Last season, he totaled 75 receptions for 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns. He is clearly a complete mold of Meyer’s ideal wide receiver.

He has offers from Arkansas, Alabama, Michigan State, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Notre Dame, USC, Illinois, and Oklahoma State.

Nick Saban Get Georgia’s # 1 Running Back

30 May

Sometimes the rich just continue to get richer.

Alabama football is certainly excited about their new jewel. Nick Saban has done it again, nabbing the best running back in the state of Georgia Kenyan Drake.

Last year in Drake’s junior season he ran for almost 1,200 yards and 12 TD’s while also adding an additional 600 yards and eight TD’s receiving.

The news must come hard for Georgia Tech who has been publicly the front runner for Drake’s services. Drake said that his decision came down to Alabama’s facilities, coaching staff, and the excellent academics at ‘Bama.

Next season Drake will lead Power Springs, Georgia Hillgrove High School as the best running back in the state but his path to running back at Alabama may be hampered by his small frame. In order for the 6’1 195 pound running back to grace the field as a true back at ‘Bama he must put on some weight. Nevertheless, his talents will result in playing time somewhere in the Alabama offensive system.

2011 Mock Draft by Coach Kennedy

The Carolina Panthers are being tight lipped about their decision for the number one pick. It’s a good strategy because it gives them the latitude to make a multitude of moves to better their draft picks in the 2011 draft or drive up interest for the top pick for teams that need a quarterback. However, I think they will keep the number one pick and select Gabbert to be their franchise QB.

The Buffalo Bills are the start of the turmoil for many teams. I happen to think the bills will take a hard look at Cam Newton.  However, they will go with a pass rusher. Last season they took a chance on Shawne Merriman and it’s too early to judge. Bills fans know that they need to have a great defense to keep up with the teams in their division. Thus, Miller would be a good fit.

Bengal fans are in the middle of a QB vs Owner war. If the owner feels that his starting QB won’t return then I think the Bengals would pick a QB at this spot. Cam Newton is still on the board and has a lot of talent.

The Cardinals draft room will be upset with Cam Netwon being off the board. They will execute plan B and either wait for a QB in later rounds or get a worthy veteran to take over the position. Their selection will likely be a CB to step into their secondary with Rodgers-Cromartie.

This pick for the Browns is interesting. Most would probably pick a WR with this pick but the Browns need a good outside pass rusher. With Von Miller gone they will take a chance on Bowers.

Cowboy fans like to get flashy players in the first round. But they have a ton of needs on the defensive side of the ball. I think they will fill one with J.J. Watt. Though, not flashy, he would be productive in Ryan’s defense.

The Cowboys division rival picks at the tenth spot. The Redskins would be overwhelmed with AJ Green still being on the board. And they won’t waste any time turning in the pick.

With Wade Phillips taking over as defensive coordinator, the Texans will need to work on filling needs through the draft. I think they want to address the secondary first; however, a quality CB at this point isn’t available. So they will address their pass rush and select Missouri’s Aldon Smith.

Sam Bradford would love to see Julio Jones being left on the board at 14. He needs a true number one receiver to began building off the success of last season.

I think the Patriots will have the best draft in 2011. And to start off they will select an offensive lineman. Either they will address tackle or guard. I feel they will take Florida’s Mike Pouncey to work opposite of Logan Mankins.

The Kansas City Chiefs is in need of a quality right tackle. They will take one at this pick.

Seattle Seahawks fans would love to see Washington’s Jake Locker become their franchise QB. It’s a bit of a leap to reach for him this early but I think they would pull the trigger. It is a good pick and would help with public relations and franchise appeal. Besides Locker’s college coach is one of Pete Carroll’s former assistants at USC.

The New York Jets need to address the defensive tackle position. Yes, Jenkins is a great DT. However, he has a tendency to get injured. They will take a DT and probably Paea from Oregon State.

Recruiting Spotlight: Joseph Scelfo

20 Mar

For most college football programs offensive line is their top priority. For one school this won’t be a problem. Whoever signs North Oconee High School’s Joseph Scelfo will get a solid lineman who can play both center and guard. This 6`2 275 pound guard has both power and excellent technique. But more importantly he has great leadership skills and superb academic success (3.43 GPA).

Check him out. Number 66

The cornerstone of any successful team requires a solid group of offensive linemen. This collective group of men is responsible for the success or failure of each offensive play.

He began his high school career as a starting sophomore and never looked back. Scelfo is a leader on the Titans offensive unit. Registering a career high 11 pancakes in a game, Joseph Scelfo is the truth.

As a result of his exceptional play he has been the recipient of All region and All Area awards. His play hasn’t gone unnoticed, schools including UAB, Marshall, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Miami, UL Monroe, MTSU, Furman, Wofford, Syracuse, Samford, UCLA, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech has begun sending him mail.

His sports heroes include Todd Mclure, Tony Gonzalez, Jeff Saturday, Walter Jones, and Chris Scelfo. His play reminds me of linemen like Walter Jones, Jon Runyan, and Larry Allen. This kid has pure talent and an enormous upside. A great addition to whatever university he decides to attend.

Expected Graduation Year: 2012
