Penn State New Guy? Bill O’Brien

6 Jan

After A year of scandal, Penn State seems to have their guy to replace Joe Paterno. Multiple sources have said the New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien will be the new head coach at Penn State.

Penn State has not commented. And if true, it’s not clear if O’Brien will coach the Patriots in the NFL Playoffs.

Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel Resigns

30 May

The Columbus Dispatch reportedly obtained a memo from Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee that states Jim Tressel has announced his letter of resignation.

The memo was sent to Ohio State University trustee Monday morning states:

“I write to let you know that later this morning we will be announcing the resignation of Jim Tressel as head coach of the University’s football program. As you all know, I appointed a special committee to analyze and provide advice to me regarding issues attendant to our football program. In consultation with the senior leadership of the University and the senior leadership of the Board, I have been actively reviewing the matter and have accepted Coach Tressel’s resignation.

Assistant Coach Luke Fickell will serve as interim coach all of next season

This news isn’t quite shocking because of the allegations the football program has been under in recent months. However, Tressel made a pact with his star players accused to committed wrongdoings to stay at the program and serve a five game suspension. He was also planned to serve said suspension and return to coach the team afterward.

Below is a video from ESPN looking at the legacy of Tressel coaching career at OSU.

Recruiting Spotlight: Jacob Williams

25 Feb

The great Vince Lombardi once said, “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.” Well Jacob Williams doesn’t have to worry about that. This 5`8, 155 pound football player is a pure explosive playmaker. He reminds me of players like DeSean Jackson, Percy Harvin, Nnamdi Asomugha, and one of his sports heroes Champ Bailey with his great ball skills and speed.

Williams plays cornerback on the defensive side of the ball and wide receiver in the team’s pistol offense. He also handles the punt and kick return duties for St. Francis. In the 40 yard dash he runs a 4.65. Check out this exceptional player for yourself. Jersey Number: #10

He has received several honors for his play and leadership. He has 3 MVP awards, an Inspirational Player award, and Defensive Back award. Not only is he a great football player, he is a great student as well. Williams has a 3.2 GPA. These accolades haven’t gone unnoticed. Schools like Alberta, Bishop’s, Mount Allison, Waterloo, British Columbia, STFX, York, Western, Toronto, Wilfred Laurier, and Windsor has all shown interest in Williams.

Maryland Football Defensive Problem

16 Feb

University of Maryland head coach Randy Edsall is having a lot of trouble finding the man to lead the defense. His highest publicly speculated candidate Randy Shannon didn’t elect to interview for the position. It has been suggested that if Shannon did take the defensive coordinator job, he will lose millions of dollars.

Another candidate from a prominent program has also declined to interview. Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson declined to interview and choose not to comment on his reasoning.

At this point the position is still vacant. As spring football nears the coaching staff needs to be filled out.

Weekend College Football Preview

12 Nov

This week in college football has been a rocky road. And at the completion of the week we will find ourselves having to watch a bunch of unappealing games. No I won’t consider the Auburn game as one of this weeks must anticipated games. Mr. Newton on the other hand will… However, there is a game in the SEC this week that intrigue me a little bit. The Tennessee vs. Ole Miss game is underrated but it would be great. Hahaha…that was a joke however, I will allow you to see the preview. Other games that are really important at least slightly are the Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina, Oklahoma State vs. Texas, Penn State vs. Ohio State (game of the week), TCU vs. San Diego State, Oregon vs. California games.

Let’s get prepared for this weekend’s college football games. We are indeed in store for some great games that will shake up the BCS. The two games that interest me are the Alabama vs. LSU game and the TCU vs. Utah game. The Utah, TCU game isn’t going to get much hype in the broad sports culture, due to its commercial appeal. However, this game will likely determine at least one team that will compete in the BCS Championship game. Of course there is a group of individuals that disagree with me. My argument is simple look at the remaining schedules of each team and both of their positions are it relates to the polls. It would be hard to argue that they won’t be in the Championship game.

Another possible historical game this weekend is the Northwestern vs. Penn State. Head coach Joe Paterno is going for his 400 th victory.

GAME OF THE WEEK

USA Today Coaches’ Poll

4 Oct

Alabama still remains atop of the poll. The Oregon Ducks leapfrogged the Boise State Broncos after their win against Stanford on Saturday. Texas and Penn State falls out of the poll, after losing. And Florida State (24) and Northwestern (25) narrowly made it into the poll. The Big East again has no teams in the Top 25.
