Good News at UVA

12 Feb

After being courted by Tampa Bay Bucccaneers new head coach Greg Schiano, University of Virginia offensive coordinator Bill Lazor will remain at UVA.

One of the best new coordinators will continue to help rebuild the once struggling programs. Head coach Mike London is to be excited about this news. He said in a statement, “I was very happy when Bill told me he was still going to be a member of our coaching staff. He has done a wonderful job with the development of our team and I know he believes we can make even more improvement this year. I’m happy he will be here to help us continue to build something special at Virginia.”

UVA Making Strides

4 Feb

The University of Virginia football dominance in recruiting is taking shape under the direction of head coach Mike London. This UVA signed 26 recruits. 17 of those 26 are from the state of Virginia. 2 are Gatorade Players of the Year. 5 are in the ESPNU Top 150 players. This makes UVA a team in the Top 20 nationally in recruiting.

They signed CB Demetrious Nicholson, Athlete Darius Jennings, Athlete Dominique Terrell, CB Brandon Phelps, and Athlete Clifton Richardson to name a few.

Virginia: The London Effect

28 Dec

After an expected horrible year, University of Virginia head coach Mike London is having great success this offseason. The first year head coach knew coming into the UVA job that the task of rebuilding the program would be a long, slow process. Thus, one of his key goals was to recruit the state of Virginia harder than before.

Virginia is known for its outstanding athletes in the “757” region of the state. London knew if his program was to have any success he would need to push for this area. Well, so far this offseason he has secured 13 of the state’s top 25 athletes. He has commitments from top CB Demetrious Nicholson, QB David Watford, and LB Da’Quan Romero.

London one of my coaching idols, is off to a good start recruiting and will be a thorn in the side of Virginia Tech recruiting prowess in the state of Virginia.

Controversial Call in USC-UVA Game Gets Officials Suspended

14 Sep

Maybe the call that took away Mike London’s his second win as University of Virginia Head Coach causes officials to be reprimanded.

During a critical point in the game UVA called for a fake punt and was successful. However, the officials working the game flagged UVA for blocking below the waist. Blocking below the waist on a regular punt is a penalty. But in this case it is considered a normal down and shouldn’t have been called. Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott said in a statement that Virginia was called for blocking below the waist on a second-quarter fake punt. By rule, however, no penalty was warranted because no kick was made.

He went on to say “the officials recognized the mistake after the fact and apologized to the Virginia coaching staff. We know mistakes are made in games, but we will not tolerate our officials misinterpreting the rules,” He further went on to say “We believe the reprimand and removal from a future assignment are appropriate.”
