2011 Mock Draft by Coach Kennedy
The Carolina Panthers are being tight lipped about their decision for the number one pick. It’s a good strategy because it gives them the latitude to make a multitude of moves to better their draft picks in the 2011 draft or drive up interest for the top pick for teams that need a quarterback. However, I think they will keep the number one pick and select Gabbert to be their franchise QB.
The Buffalo Bills are the start of the turmoil for many teams. I happen to think the bills will take a hard look at Cam Newton. However, they will go with a pass rusher. Last season they took a chance on Shawne Merriman and it’s too early to judge. Bills fans know that they need to have a great defense to keep up with the teams in their division. Thus, Miller would be a good fit.
Bengal fans are in the middle of a QB vs Owner war. If the owner feels that his starting QB won’t return then I think the Bengals would pick a QB at this spot. Cam Newton is still on the board and has a lot of talent.
The Cardinals draft room will be upset with Cam Netwon being off the board. They will execute plan B and either wait for a QB in later rounds or get a worthy veteran to take over the position. Their selection will likely be a CB to step into their secondary with Rodgers-Cromartie.
This pick for the Browns is interesting. Most would probably pick a WR with this pick but the Browns need a good outside pass rusher. With Von Miller gone they will take a chance on Bowers.
Cowboy fans like to get flashy players in the first round. But they have a ton of needs on the defensive side of the ball. I think they will fill one with J.J. Watt. Though, not flashy, he would be productive in Ryan’s defense.
The Cowboys division rival picks at the tenth spot. The Redskins would be overwhelmed with AJ Green still being on the board. And they won’t waste any time turning in the pick.
With Wade Phillips taking over as defensive coordinator, the Texans will need to work on filling needs through the draft. I think they want to address the secondary first; however, a quality CB at this point isn’t available. So they will address their pass rush and select Missouri’s Aldon Smith.
Sam Bradford would love to see Julio Jones being left on the board at 14. He needs a true number one receiver to began building off the success of last season.
I think the Patriots will have the best draft in 2011. And to start off they will select an offensive lineman. Either they will address tackle or guard. I feel they will take Florida’s Mike Pouncey to work opposite of Logan Mankins.
The Kansas City Chiefs is in need of a quality right tackle. They will take one at this pick.
Seattle Seahawks fans would love to see Washington’s Jake Locker become their franchise QB. It’s a bit of a leap to reach for him this early but I think they would pull the trigger. It is a good pick and would help with public relations and franchise appeal. Besides Locker’s college coach is one of Pete Carroll’s former assistants at USC.
The New York Jets need to address the defensive tackle position. Yes, Jenkins is a great DT. However, he has a tendency to get injured. They will take a DT and probably Paea from Oregon State.
